Break a Leg!

Ok, it is the 3rd anniversary of 9/11 and we happened to have a showcase tonight. I'm ok with the date, especially since most venues will likely scheduele a hip-hop event on Monday mornings just to free up scheduling for something else. But we're "urban soul". That's what I tell them, and look, we have a summer Saturday night. Mauri Sevier and Kaleidoscope. They always shine and the other artists are solid. The kicker is the logistics of everything. It's why I was in New York last week and why I am always on the phone working with advertisers, investors, and anyone that will lend a hand to be part of this spectacle. We'll tonight we've got cameras, digital displays, and I'm the MC. And if it's all eyes on us, it's certainly all eyes on me. This better be a great show. Showtime is 10:30. It's 7:15 now. I'm leaving now and should be there by 8PM. By 10:29 I'll have grey hair. But it's worth it, right? We will see.

We're trying something different

This answers the question "Why not do it like every one else?"
I was a senior Chicago Public School high school when our football team decided to go on strike. It started after the game that took us to the 0-3 mark in the season. We were a different version of the Titan's. On paper we were power houses, but we were proving to be paper tigers. After that game our coach decide to take us to the field behind the stadium to make us run sprints until someone quit. That went on on for a couple weeks before the brilliant idea to strike was borne amongst 15 or so of us. We called the local papers and told them the strike would begin on a Monday. They showed up to the practice field on Thursday of the same week. By that time it was only me, Byrd, Mohammed, Logan, and Topps, Drake, and Lonnie. A couple of reporters asked the coaches about "the strike!". They said they knew nothing about "a strike?" We stood by the fence on the outside of the field watching the the reporters leave. I'm pretty sure we shrank into the grass. The next day Coach called a team meeting for the folks that had quit, the ones on strike, and the scaredycats - except for Ardley and Train. They had definate NFL prospects. First he offered a place on the team for anyone who still wanted to play. Most everyone came back. I say most because the seven of us had the notion to do the strike thing (I think we kept watching that one Sally Fields movie - the one with the union). Then coach told us it was a one time deal, if you don't do it today, you'd have to take ten swings of the paddle for each day between then and the day you came back. Or sit out the rest of the season. Speaking of Titans, do you remember that face and voice Denzel had in Training Day in the last scene in the projects. That was our Coach when he invited us back. 9-days later I learned a lesson directly from the coach. As Coach was leaning into his 40th swing and calling out a block away to someone named "Fourty", I mentioned the pain in the nicest of terms. He rushed around to the front of me, wiggled his leg and and asked "Does it hurt when you do that?" I said "hell yeah!". He walked back around to the launch position completely out of my view and said maniacly, "Well don't do that no more. 41!!!" So rather than write about what we've planned to do. I, we are inviting you to experience us doing it. You can see the plans and someone will be able to answer any question you may possible have. BUT, we're going to do it thru this blog, our shows, and our businesses. Anyone can tell you there is strength in numbers. We'll show you there is power in talent. So sit back, take a peak as often as possible, and we all "just might learn something". BTW - Bill Cosby is right. If for no other reason than, he is an elder. We'll keep you posted.
